Part 3: Heart Change
ACTS: THE ACTIONS OF A CHRISTIAN
PART 3
Acts 2:32-41
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” Acts 2:37 (NIV)
1. WHAT CAUSES HEART CHANGE?
They’re cut to the heart because they didn’t see the truth about Jesus.
“God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.” Acts 2:32 (NIV)
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
They’re cut to the heart because of their responsibility for the death of Jesus.
“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Acts 2:36 (NIV)
2. WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF HEART CHANGE?
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” Acts 2:37 (NIV)
You receive forgiveness.
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 2:38 (NIV)
They changed their minds about God.
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 2:38 (NIV)
“Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?” Romans 2:4 (NLT)
They were willing to unconditionally surrender.
“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” Acts 2:37 (ESV)
