Part 2: God's Spirit and Power

ACTS: THE ACTIONS OF A CHRISTIAN

PART 2

Acts 2:1-13

How did the launch of Christianity take place?

“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.” Acts 2:2-3 (NIV)

1. The Holy Spirit indwells the believers.

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—He will testify about Me. And you also must testify, for you have been with Me from the beginning.” John 15:26-27 (NIV)

“All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” Acts 2:4 (NIV)

2. The Holy Spirit empowers the believers.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NIV)

  • The Holy Spirit is God in you working through you.

“Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans?’” Acts 2:5-7 (NIV)

3. The Holy Spirit helps the believers to fulfill Jesus’ mission.

Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, ‘What does this mean?” Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.’” Acts 2:12-13 (NIV)

  • Not everyone will receive the Gospel.

“When He comes, He will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin, because people do not believe in Me; about righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see Me no longer; and about judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.” John 16:8-11 (NIV)

It is up to you to keep in step with the Holy Spirit.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25 (NIV)
