Part 1: Great Truth
ACTS: THE ACTIONS OF A CHRISTIAN
PART 1
Acts 1:1-11
Acts is for the Christian and the skeptic.
“With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” Luke 1:3-4 (NIV)
“In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day He was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen.” Acts 1:1-2 (NIV)
For the skeptic.
“After His suffering, He presented Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God. On one occasion, while He was eating with them, He gave them this command:” Acts 1:3-4a (NIV)
The book of Acts is presented as eyewitness testimony.
The eyewitnesses’ claims:
1. We saw Jesus alive, and we followed Him.
2. We saw Jesus arrested and crucified, and we fled.
3. We saw Jesus alive again, and we returned as His followers.
4. We saw Jesus ascend into heaven.
No eyewitnesses ever rescinded any of these claims
For the Christian.
“On one occasion, while He was eating with them, He gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 1:4-5 (NIV)
“For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:5 (NIV)
The book of Acts demonstrates life change through Jesus Christ.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NIV)
The book of Acts shows how to live like you believe Jesus is on the throne of Heaven and that He will return.
“After He said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid Him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as He was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven.’” Acts 1:9-11 (NIV)
Two questions for the reader:
1. What will you believe?
2. How will that belief change you?
