Part 1: Searching For Happy

MODERN PROBLEMS ANCIENT SOLUTIONS

PART 1

Psalm 1

  • Blessed–happy.

Happy are those who reject the advice of evil people, who do not follow the example of sinners or join those who have no use for God.” Psalm 1:1 (GNT)

  1. THE BIBLE SAYS HAPPINESS IS POSSIBLE.

  • But you won’t be happy when your happiness is based on externals.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind.” Psalm 1:3-4 (NLT)

You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine.” Psalm 4:7 (NLT)

  • You won’t be happy when you have no anchor point outside of yourself.

“But not the wicked! They are like worthless chaff, scattered by the wind. They will be condemned at the time of judgment. Sinners will have no place among the godly.” Psalm 1:4-5 (NLT)

“God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.” Hebrews 6:18-19 (NIV)

  • What is your anchor?

  1. THE BIBLICAL PLAN FOR HAPPINESS IS PLANTING YOUR ROOTS DEEP IN THE GOSPEL.

  • Delight in the Word of God.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.” Psalm 1:1 (NIV)

But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” Psalm 1:2 (NLT)

  • Devote yourself to the people of God.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.” Psalm 1:1 (NIV)

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.” Psalm 16:11 (NLT)
