Part 2: A Thirst for Something Greater

MODERN PROBLEMS ANCIENT SOLUTIONS

PART 2

Psalm 63:1-11

  • Transcendence–connected to something   greater than yourself.

You, God, are my God; earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You; my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1 (NIV)

1. EXPRESS YOUR AWE TO GOD.

“I have seen You in Your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise You! I will praise You as long as I live, lifting up my hands to You in prayer.” Psalm 63:2-4 (NLT)

2. APPRAISE THE LORD.

  • Appraise–add up something’s value and compare it to other things.

“Because Your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise You.” Psalm 63:3 (ESV)

“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.” Acts 20:24 (NIV)

The Lord is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?” Psalm 27:1 (NLT)

3. PRAISE GOD FOR WHO HE IS.

“I have seen You in Your sanctuary and gazed upon Your power and glory.” Psalm 63:2 (NLT)

4. YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN EXPERIENCE OF UNDESERVED GRACE.

You, God, are my God; earnestly I seek You; I thirst for You; my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water.” Psalm 63:1 (NIV)

“But the king will rejoice in God. All who swear to tell the truth will praise Him, while liars will be silenced.” Psalm 63:11 (NLT)

  • Steadfast love–undeserved love.
