Mark 9:2-9; 14-29

LESSONS FROM THE TRANSFIGURATION:

1. JESUS IS THE OBJECT OF OUR WORSHIP.

“After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There He was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.” Mark 9:2-3 (NIV)

“But in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” Hebrews 1:2-3 (NIV)

  • Jesus is not just a good teacher.

2. IN LIFE, YOU WILL HAVE MOUNTAINTOP EXPERIENCES AND STRUGGLES.

“When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them.  As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet Him.” Mark 9:14-15 (NIV)

“As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.” Mark 9:9 (NIV)

  • Will suffering and struggle drive you closer to God or away from God?

3. HOW TO GROW SPIRITUALLY IN FAITH AND WHEN YOU HAVE DOUBT.

“So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, ‘How long has he been like this?’ ‘From childhood,’ he answered. ‘It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if You can do anything, take pity on us and help us.’ ‘If You can?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’” Mark 9:20-24 (NIV)

  • Come to God in helplessness.

“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24 (NIV)

  • You’ve got to bring to Jesus whatever is most precious to you.

  • Listen to Jesus more.

“Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud: ‘This is My Son, whom I love. Listen to Him!’” Mark 9:7 (NIV)
