Part 3: Jesus' Heart
JOURNEY TO THE CROSS
PART 3
Mark 14:32-42
1. WHAT WE READ IN THE BIBLE ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
“They went to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Sit here while I pray.’ He took Peter, James and John along with Him, and He began to be deeply distressed and troubled.” Mark 14:32-33 (NIV)
“‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,’ He said to them. ‘Stay here and keep watch.’” Mark 14:34 (NIV)
“And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.” Luke 22:44 (NIV)
“‘Abba, Father,’ He said, ‘everything is possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.’” Mark 14:36 (NIV)
Jesus experienced utter aloneness and the pain of rejection.
2. STAND AMAZED AT HIS LOVE FOR YOU IN HIS DARKEST HOUR.
“Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Simon,’ He said to Peter, ‘are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’ Once more He went away and prayed the same thing. When He came back, He again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to Him.” Mark 14:37-40 (NIV)
3. JESUS SHOWS YOU A WAY TO HANDLE YOUR DARKEST HOUR.
“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me.” Psalm 23:4 (NLT)
Gethsemane helps you see the one thing you never need to doubt is His love.
“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of My hands...” Isaiah 49:15-16a (NLT)
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart, I will praise His holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.” Psalm 103:1-2 (NLT)
“We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed. Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” 2 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NLT)
