Matthew 2:13-23

“She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21 (NIV)

The Gospel requires a response.

“When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.” Matthew 1:24 (NIV)

1. Total belief.

“When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up,’ he said, ‘take the Child and His mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the Child to kill Him.’ So he got up, took the Child and His mother during the night and left for Egypt.” Matthew 2:13-14 (NIV)

2. Conditional belief.

“The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test Him, they asked Him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, ‘Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.’” Mark 8:11-12 (NIV)

3. Rejection.

“When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi…22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee.” Matthew 2:16, 22 (NIV)

  • The Gospel will interrupt you.

“So he got up, took the Child and His mother during the night and left for Egypt… So he got up, took the Child and His mother and went to the land of Israel.” Matthew 2:14, 21 (NIV)

  • Is your faith ready for a life interruption?

“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for Me and for the gospel will save it.” Mark 8:35 (NIV)
