Part 1: Noah - Claiming the Promise

JOURNEY OF FAITH

PART 1

Hebrews 11:1-3, 6-7

1. WHAT ARE THE CONVICTIONS OF SPIRITUAL FAITH

  • God is real.

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see…By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.” Hebrews 11:1,3 (NIV)

  • God keeps His promises.

“For by it the people of old received their commendation.” Hebrews 11:2 (ESV)

  • Seeking God is worth every effort.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

2. HOW DOES FAITH GO BEYOND JUST AN IDEA, AND BECOME POWER

  • Noah believed God.

By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.” Hebrews 11:7 (ESV)

  • Christian faith is not just believing in God – it's believing God.

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

  • Noah placed his identity, security and future in the ark

“By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.” Hebrews 11:7 (NIV)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’” Romans 1:16-17 (ESV)
