James 1:18-27

  • If you have a personal and living relationship with God, you will have a living relationship with God’s Word - the Bible.

1. YOU NEED TO HUMBLE YOURSELF UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF THE WORD OF GOD.

“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.” James 1:18 (NIV)

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:25 (NIV)

  • How do you know if you have humbled yourself?

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 (NIV)

2. YOU NEED TO BE SHAPED BY THE WORD OF GOD.

“Anyone who listens to the Word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:23-25 (NIV)

  • Look intently.

“However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.” Luke 24:12 (NLT)

  • See who you really are.

“For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (ESV)

  • Put the Word of God into action.

“But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” James 1:25 (NIV)

3. YOU NEED TO BE A DOER OF THE WORD OF GOD.

“Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22 (NIV)
