Part 3: Jesus Encounters the Anxious
JESUS’ ENCOUNTERS
PART 3
Luke 10:38-42
1. HOW TO KNOW IF YOU’RE LIKE MARTHA:
“As Jesus and His disciples were on their way, He came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to Him.” Luke 10:38 (NIV)
Inner turmoil.
“‘Martha, Martha,’ the Lord answered, ‘you are worried and upset about many things.’” Luke 10:41 (NIV)
“But few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NIV)
Irritability.
“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!’” Luke 10:40 (NIV)
Jesus shatters a myth.
Myth: Busyness = Faithfulness.
“Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty.’” John 6:35 (NIV)
“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of Your presence and the pleasures of living with You forever.” Psalm 16:11 (NLT)
2. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SIT AT JESUS’ FEET?
“She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what He said.” Luke 10:39 (NIV)
Focused time with God’s Word.
