Part 4: Convicted to the Heart
NEW AND IMPROVED
PART 4
Acts 2:32-41
WHY WERE THE PEOPLE CONVICTED TO THE HEART?
They realized they had been wrong about Jesus.
“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Acts 2:36 (NIV)
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 (NIV)
They realized they were responsible for Jesus’ death.
“This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put Him to death by nailing Him to the cross…Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” Acts 2:23, 36 (NIV)
“Peter replied, ‘Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!’ Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will disown Me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.” Luke 22:60-62 (NIV)
WHAT WERE THE RESULTS OF THEIR CONVICTION TO THE HEART?
“When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” Acts 2:37 (NIV)
Forgiveness.
“Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’” Acts 2:38 (NIV)
Unconditional Surrender.
“Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what shall we do?’” Acts 2:37 (ESV)
“Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.” Acts 2:41 (NIV)
Baptism.
“So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41 (ESV)
“Baptism is an action that declares publicly that you have committed your life to Jesus Christ. It says: I am a Christian.”
