PART 2

Numbers 13:25-33; 14:1-10

• Faith is trusting God in the midst of fear.

1. BEING CONTROLLED BY FEAR IS A REFUSAL TO SEE GOD AS HE IS.

“So they spread this bad report about the land among the Israelites: ‘The land we traveled through and explored will devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the descendants of Anak. Next to them we felt like grasshoppers, and that’s what they thought, too!’” Numbers 13:32-33 (NLT)

“Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” Numbers 14:9 (NLT)

• The ultimate fear is thinking God will fail us.

2.  DON’T FORGET HOW GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL TO YOU.

“Not one of these people will ever enter that land. They have all seen My glorious presence and the miraculous signs I performed both in Egypt and in the wilderness, but again and again they have tested Me by refusing to listen to My voice.” Numbers 14:22 (NLT)

“He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all—how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32 (NIV)

• Where is your faith?  

3. FAITH IS BEING CONTROLLED BY THE TRUTH ABOUT GOD NOT CIRCUMSTANCES.  

“Then the whole community began weeping aloud, and they cried all night. Their voices rose in a great chorus of protest against Moses and Aaron. ‘If only we had died in Egypt, or even here in the wilderness!’ they complained. ‘Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?’ Then they plotted among themselves, ‘Let’s choose a new leader and go back to Egypt!’” Numbers 14:1-4 (NLT)

• Don’t go back to Egypt.  

“Why is the Lord taking us to this country only to have us die in battle? Our wives and our little ones will be carried off as plunder! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?” Numbers 14:3 (NLT)

• Being awakened is a call to live by faith.  

“Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do His will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.” Isaiah 50:7 (NLT)
