Part 1: A New Birth

NEW AND IMPROVED

PART 1

John 3:1-15

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BEING BORN AGAIN:

“Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again.’” John 3:3 (NIV)

  1. IT IS NECESSARY FOR SALVATION.

“Jesus answered, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.’ You should not be surprised at My saying, ‘You must be born again.’  The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8 (NIV)

  1. IT IS A SPIRITUAL REALITY.

“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” John 3:6 (NIV)

  • We are physically born into human sin; through Jesus, we may be spiritually born into God’s righteousness.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God…Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” 1 Peter 1:3, 23, 2:2 (NIV)

  1. IT IS A NEW BEGINNING TO LIFE.

“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want…Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit…Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 5:17, 25, 6:8-9 (NIV)

HOW CAN YOU BE BORN AGAIN?

“Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in Him.” John 3:14-15 (NIV)

  • Look to Christ Jesus and believe.

  • True belief in Jesus changes everything for you.
