Salvation & Baptism
The STEP TO START AN AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST AS LORD OF YOUR LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP YOU WILL EVER TAKE.
What does Following Christ Mean?
God loves you! He loves you so much that he sent Jesus Christ to die for the sin that separates you from Him. Following Christ means you understand you, like all of us, are a sinner. Your sin has been forgiven through Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. This is a gift that you choose to receive or not. If you turn away from pride and selfishness and the effort to control every moment of your life and turn your life over to Jesus Christ to control as Lord of your life, you are following Christ.
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10 NIV
What is baptism?
Simply put, baptism is demonstrating you have accepted Jesus Christ to lead your life. It’s the next step of obedience that shows you acknowledge the fact that Jesus died on the cross, was buried and walked out of the grave, alive, so each of us can have eternal life. Being baptized, going under the water and back up, symbolizes Jesus' burial and resurrection.
There's nothing special about the water and baptism does not save you from sin, however when you step into the water you are letter your family, friends, and the world know that you have committed to a new life of faith in Jesus Christ. If you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus, baptism is the next step in your spiritual journey. For example, that means if you were baptized as a baby before you were old enough to make the decision to follow Jesus, baptism is still your next step. We'd be happy to talk to you about baptism and any questions you may have. Text "Nextsteps" to 432.219.2292 and we'll arrange to meet with you or contact you to answer those questions.
4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:4 NIV
Have you given your life to Christ and haven't been baptized? We'd love to celebrate your decision to be baptized with you. Baptisms are after the 11:30 am service in the commons on the dates indicated below..
